Ohio Pipe Trades looking for veterans that served as Plumber, Pipefitter or HVAC-R service tech in the military

The Ohio Pipe Trades are looking for veterans that served in Plumbing, Pipefitting or HVAC-R service and repair positions in the military. Those with documented military experience are potential candidates for direct entry into the Ohio Pipe Trades and may also receive advanced placement in their local apprenticeship program.


Plumbing & Pipefitting:

The 5-year Building Trades program is dedicated to training apprentices in the fields of welding, pipefitting and plumbing installation. Building Trades Apprentices learn to install and maintain piping systems in commercial and industrial settings such as hospitals, power plants, manufacturing plants and many other facilities.

Apprentices in this program work for a signatory contractor earning a wage determined by the current contract and attend school one day a week every other week. In each year of apprenticeship, the apprentice must meet certain requirements in order to advance to the next year of apprenticeship. At the end of the 5 years if all requirements have been met, the apprentice is advanced to journeyperson status.

HVAC-R (Mechanical Equipment Services):

The 5-year Mechanical Equipment Services program is dedicated to training apprentices in the fields of commercial HVAC and refrigeration system installation, repair and maintenance. Apprentices in this program work for a signatory contractor earning a wage determined by the current contract and attend school two nights a week. In each year of apprenticeship, the apprentice must meet certain requirements in order to advance to the next year of apprenticeship. At the end of the 5 years if all requirements have been met, the apprentice is advanced to serviceperson status.


Requirements

To be considered for this opportunity, the Ohio Pipe Trades are seeking those that have held one of the following military specialties:

a. Army: 12K Plumber, 91C Utilities Equipment Repairer

b. Navy: UT Utilitiesman

c. Air Force: 3E1X1 HVAC-R, 3E4X1 Water and Fuel Systems Maintenance

d. Marine Corps: 1161 Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Technician, 1169 Utilities Chief, 1171 Water Support Technician

e. Coast Guard: DC Damage Controlman, MK Machinery Technician 

For proof of service in one of these positions, request a copy of your DD 2586 Verification of Military Experience and Training (VMET) to the POCs listed below. To request your VMET from your military branch, start the process here: VMET Request 

All applicants must have a high school diploma or GED, driver’s license, must be 18 years of age prior to entering the program, and be able to provide employment eligibility documentation. Applicants will also need to submit to a pre-employment drug test.
