MILITARY PAY TECHNICIAN (QUALITY REVIEW)

- The duties, described below, represent the major duties performed at the GS-07 level. The duties performed for developmental positions will be of limited scope and complexity to develop skills, proficiency, and work experience.
- Performs Quality Assurance reviews/audits to determine the accuracy of debt establishment and validation for all services and the effectiveness of the associated internal controls.
- Performs special reviews of selected debt establishment cases upon request by service member or other authority.
- Completes appellate review cases for all branches of service that impact the Master Military Pay Account (MMPA) after legal decisions have been rendered.
- Recommends changes to written or current procedures and practices covering the functional areas, additional office training needs and utilization of resources.
- Reviews and considers a variety of circumstances prior to establishing service member’s debt or repayment.
Requirements
One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade (GS-04 if applying at the GS-05 level, GS-05 if applying at the GS-06 level or GS-06 if applying at the GS-07 level) within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required. GS-05 Specialized Experience is defined as: performing duties that support the processing of financial/accounting transactions using standardized procedures that may include reviewing financial/accounting systems information/documents for accuracy/completeness, inputting financial/accounting information into automated systems, or correcting invalid financial/accounting transactions. GS-06 Specialized Experience is defined as: using automated pay systems to process military pay actions; researching and making necessary corrections in pay actions; and investigating, documenting and correcting military pay and debt-related issues. GS-07 Specialized Experience is defined as: interpreting the laws, rules and regulations pertaining to the military pay system; reviewing and processing final actions to resolve various complicated military pay problems using a variety of techniques and procedures. You may qualify for consideration if meeting specialized experience, education requirement, 90 days after competitive appointment requirement, and all other qualification requirements within 30 calendar days after the closing date of the announcement, unless otherwise indicated on the announcement.
