Ironworker Apprenticeship Applications (In-person applications accepted as needed; check our website)
Do you like to be able to see the work you've done at the end of the day? Do you like to work outdoors? Are you willing to do physically demanding work that requires you to use your mind too? You just might have what it takes to become an Ironworker.
STRUCTURAL IRONWORKERS
-Unload, erect, and connect fabricated iron beams to form the project skeleton.
-Work primarily on industrial, commercial and large residential buildings.
-Build towers, bridges, stadiums, and prefabricated metal buildings.
-Erect and install pre-cast beams, columns and panels.
REINFORCING IRONWDRKERS
-Fabricate, assemble, and install reinforcing steel (rebar), and wire mesh for all types of concrete construction.
-Fabricate, assemble, and install FRP, composites, and other materials used to reinforce all types of concrete construction.
-Fabricate, assemble, and install all components of pre and post-tensioning tendon and bar systems.
-Stress and grout pre and post-tensioning bars and tendons.
-Install all reinforcing accessories and supports
-Reinforcing components are typically manually assembled and tied together with wire or sometimes welded.
ORNAMENTAL (ARCHITECTURAL) IRONWORKERS
-Install metal windows into a building’s masonry or wooden openings.
-Erect curtain wall and window wall systems that cover the steel or reinforced concrete structure of a building.
-Install and erect metal stairways, catwalks, gratings, doors, railings, fencing, elevator fronts and building entrances.
RIGGING AND MACHINERY MOVING IRONWORKERS
-Load, unload, move and set machinery, structural steel and curtain walls.
-Operate power hoists, cranes, derricks, forklifts and aerial lifts.
-Have knowledge of fiber line, wire rope, hoisting equipment and proper hand signals.
WELDING AND BURNING IRONWORKERS
Welding and burning equipment are considered tools of the trade and performed by structural, reinforcing, ornamental and rigging ironworkers to secure their work to the structure. Ironworkers can be tested to be designated as a certified welder.

For publicity purposes, we will publish application acceptance dates on our website: IW Local #401 . Interested candidates may obtain an application for an Apprenticeship at our Training Center 11602 Norcom Road, Philadelphia, PA 19154 on any of the following dates, a current Driver's License is required to receive an application.
Dates and times to be published, check our website for the next announcement. Typically March time frame.
Please note that these are the only dates and time applications will be accepted. Class size is limited; therefore, all applicants must be at least 18 years of age, physically able to work at the trade, possess a valid driver's license (identification cards are not acceptable), have a high school diploma or G.E.D., and able to pass a substance abuse test (marijuana cards are not accepted).
