Assistant Corporation Counsel, Labor and Employment Law


The New York City Law Department is seeking applicants for the position of Assistant Corporation Counsel, Electronic Discovery Attorney, in its Labor and Employment Law Division. The Labor and Employment Law Division defends the City in complex and challenging state and federal actions arising from the Citys role as an employer.Attorneys in the Division litigate a broad range of matters, including First Amendment retaliation; gender, race, age, and disability discrimination; civil service law issues; and wage and hour litigation.The Electronic Discovery Attorney supports Division attorneys by conducting comprehensive searches of both paper and electronic records for document production, and by coordinating with information technology systems across City agencies to address complex discovery requirements. The Electronic Discovery Attorney also provides guidance on all stages of the e discovery process, including issuing preservation notices, drafting and negotiating agreements pertaining to electronically stored information (ESI), evaluating confidentiality stipulations, and reviewing affirmative and responsive correspondence and motions related to ESI production.Additionally, the Electronic Discovery Attorney participates in meet and confer sessions with opposing counsel and appears at court conferences where ESI related matters are addressed. Salary InformationThe Law Department sets salaries for new attorneys based on their post law school legal experience, which typically aligns with their law school graduation year. - For 05 years of legal experience: $ 87,737$122,300 - For 5-10 years of legal experience: $122,300-137,188- For 10-15 years of legal experience: $137,188-$159,521- For 15-20 years of legal experience: $159,521-$180,791 - For 20+ years of legal experience: $180,791-$188, 235Candidates with highly specialized experience may qualify for salaries slightly above these ranges when a role requires such expertise or the position is considered hard to fill. Work From Home OptionsFollowing orientation, attorneys may elect to participate in one of two remote work programs: 1. Flexible Remote Work: Allows limited, irregular work from home days.2. Citywide Pilot Program: Allows attorneys to work remotely on two set days per week, subject to Division approval and staffing needs. Participants must maintain a single designated remote work location, and in person obligations take precedence over scheduled remote days. Requirements

Applicants must have at least 3 years of legal experience following graduation from an ABA accredited law school. Must be admitted to practice law in the State of New York. The successful applicant should preferably have experience in electronic discovery management, including an understanding of and exposure to litigation involving the exchange of paper and electronic discovery; experience in large case volume; experience and strong technical skills with litigation support and document review platforms and an ability to communicate technical ESI concepts to attorneys and clients. Admission to practice in the Southern and Eastern District Courts of New York is also preferred. Experienced (non-manager)
